Join us!
Our lab is based at the University of California, Berkeley, embedded in the vibrant and multicultural San Francisco Bay Area, surrounded by astonishing nature!
Our lab has many projects involving plant laboratory work, genome sequencing, field experiments, and bioinformatic analyses at undergraduate, graduate, and postdoc levels.
We strive to recruit the most creative and motivated individuals -- of any nationality, race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, veteran status, or disability -- and help them when necessary to apply for individual funding.
Informal contacts are welcome, just write an email to moi@moilab.science describing your background and interests. We deeply value diverse thinking, so international researchers of all backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply! For internships, look at the current topics we offer here.

Prospective postdocs
Postdocs are post-PhD researchers who lead scientific projects. more independently Although we regularly post internally-funded positions, all prospective postdocs are encouraged to apply for independent funding. Here a link to some common fellowships and their deadlines.
Prospective postdocs are encouraged to contact Moi in advance even if there are no advertised positions (typically minimally half a year in advance of target start, most ideal one year in advance).
If you are interested in being hosted in our lab with a fellowships, contact Moi half a year in advance of a fellowship deadline.
Prospective technical positions (staff research associate, laboratory technician, research specialists)
We also bring supporting staff scientists for large lab-wide experiments and projects to ensure science is successfully done! There are multiple types of HR positions under the technical category, including pre-PhD positions such as laboratory assistants, staff research associates, or HHMI research technician (several of these are informally referred as research assistants or RAs), and post-PhD positions where it is expected that scientists play a leadership role in charting scientific projects and mentor others, these fall into the category of staff research associate - supervisor or HHMI research specialists.
Keep an eye open for this website, where we will post open staff resarchers positions.
Prospective graduate students
Prospective graduate students can apply via Berkeley's Integrative Biology PhD programs (see https://guide.berkeley.edu/graduate/degree-programs/integrative-biology/#admissionstext). Applications are due late November each year (check deadlines here https://grad.berkeley.edu/admissions/choosing-your-program/list/).
Applicants are advised to also apply to NSF's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (https://www.nsfgrfp.org)
Happy to be informally contacted to discuss possibilities to rotate/join the lab or just to seek advice!
If you are interested in pursuing a PhD, here is a form to express interests for the fall 2024 application cycle in November (to start PhD program fall 2025): https://forms.gle/XkNkBqL1Y6mXN7U47

Prospective undergraduates
Do you want to help us grow hundreds of plant mutants with their own unique (and sometimes never seen) plant forms? Do you want to learn how to crunch genomic, biodiversity, climatic, and satellite databases to learn about biology? Write me an email to chat about potential quarter or summer projects. For current projects, look here!
In addition, every year the department has a summer internship program. Enquire via email about it.
